Summary: In Ireland, Teen
Girls Who Lose Their Virginity By age 17 Are More Likely to Have an
Abortion later in Life.
The age of the girl when she first has
sex is associated with the likelihood of her choosing abortion.
An Irish study by the Crisis Pregnancy
Agency found that women who had vaginal sex before they were 17
years old, were nearly 3 times more likely to experience an abortion
than those who waited to have sex until they were older. Young women
and those who are not in a formalized relationship are also more
likely to have an abortion during their life. In addition, older
age at crisis pregnancy is associated with a greater likelihood of
becoming a parent. [1]
